Freddy Bowen-Bate

Secretary

Freddy joined Animal Concern in September of 2022 as Company Secretary, filling the big shoes of John Robins, after recently moving his life to Scotland from southern England. For a number of years, Freddy worked at the helm of a small charity called Camino Pilgrim in London, working with dedicated volunteers and members to help achieve their objectives of promoting the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, grow the membership and increase engagement with an expanded activity programme. Before that, Freddy assistant managed two education centres for children in Surrey and trained as a secondary school teacher in modern foreign languages.

Freddy’s fascination for animals stems from childhood, spending much of his time poring over wildlife encyclopaedias, and caring for the only pets he was allowed - his four goldfish! Since then, he has rescued Bruce, the lively terrier cross pictured, who keeps both Freddy and his husband busy! And at their home in the Trossachs, they also get to feed the local birds, deer, otters, beavers and pine martens living nearby!
