League Against Cruel Sports leads petition to end fox hunting

Despite the Hunting Act 2024 (England and Wales), and the Hunting with Dogs (Scotland) Act 2023 banning fox hunting, this shocking and horrific practice still takes place across the country.

‘Trail’ hunting is a legal but deceptive method, introduced as an alternative to traditional fox hunting with dogs. The practice involves laying an animal-based scent trail, using fox urine, in areas where foxes or hares are likely to be. Those laying the trail are not supposed to tell the hound controllers where the scent has been laid, as they can claim ignorance when the hounds end up following a live animal scent.

In 2025, the UK Government promised a consultation on banning trail hunting entirely in England and Wales. However, following delays, it has still not been launched yet.

As a result, League Against Cruel Sports has crafted an open letter which calls on the Government to “push ahead with the consultation to ban trail hunting” as a matter of urgency. Furthermore, it demands that the consultation “include the removal of the exemptions in the Hunting Act, introducing jail sentences to act as a deterrent to lawbreakers, and outlawing reckless and ‘accidental’ hunting.”

SIGN THE LETTER NOW to let the Prime Minister know that the time for change is now and that he can no longer stand by as innocent animals get killed for entertainment.
