The Scottish Government Equine Guidance has finally been published, and it brings a win for heavy horses as it is officially recognised that horses need their tails!

Revised Equine Guidance is due to be published soon. The Clydesdale Horse Society has revealed the pressure to end the practice of shaving tails is getting to them. Animal Concern has written SAWC and Minister Fairlie setting out why they need to set out stronger measures.

The new Equine Welfare Guidance soon to be published will include that “best practice is not to shave the tail unless there is a veterinary/welfare reason to do so”, but will guidance be enough to stop those determined to bare the horses hind ends?
